Transformer in partnership with DCAC presents: SUPER!a sound and video exhibition of recent work by emerging artists from southeast Europe and the Mid-Atlantic United States Continuing in the footsteps of DCAC's 2000 TandemProject founded by Jayme McLellan and Katherine Carl,Transformer's Co-Directors and Super! curatorsVictoria Reis and Jayme McLellan, in June 2002embarked on a research trip to Slovenia, Croatia,Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia to view work byemerging artists from this region. The word "super"was the one pop culture reference word theyencountered throughout southeast Europe understood byall to mean extraordinary. Super! will explore cross cultural and geographicboundaries through the sharing of collective imagery, mythology, memory and universal human experience, allwith a flair for the extraordinary. Taking place at atime of historical intolerance, there has never been abetter moment for diplomacy and the need to know ourpartners across the globe. Artists from Southeast Europe include Polonca Lovsinand Tomaz Tomazin (Slovenia), protege artists of JozeBarsi (Tandem Project 2000, Venice Biennale 1997);Nebojsa Seric - Soba, one of three artists selected toexhibit at the first Bosnian Pavilion at this year'sVenice Biennale; Kristina Leko, Croatianartist-in-residence at PS1/MOMA; and Belgrade YardSound System (Goran Simonoski and Relja Bobic), DJsand musicians from Serbia.
